Black Friday (??)

Why do they call it "black Friday" ? It's a downer - right? I know that you wouldn't catch me in a store today, since I don't care for crowds.

Thanksgiving was wonderful, as usual. We had it at Dian's house - and there were about 12or so people there...we seem t o "adopt" people into our family. Oh well, that is certainly okay - we love 'em all. I really ate too much, as evidence by my blood sugar reading this morning of 193!!

Last Friday, we had the Thanksgiving building pot-luck. It was really nice and really different from my old building....no greens, no grits, no dry mac and cheese and no ham.!! I had my choice of people to sit with.....unlike before.....I didn't feel comfortable sitting with just anybody before. Further more they all knew my name.....Love it here!!

Last week I had somewhat of a scare when Fritz decided to stay under the bed all night and wouldn't''[t come out when I called him. Of course my imagination ran wild and I finally got down on my knees with the flashlight and there he was - wide awake. I went ahead and did my usual morning routine and still he didn't come out....Finally I rattled my keys and out he came.....Once we got inside tho', he scooted under the table, under the chair and finally back under the bed.....I agonized whether I should take him to the vet....and decided to wait until I got home from volunteering and see how he was....He was just fine!! Hurrah! He is as lively as ever - crises averted!...guess that's all for this time.....see you soon!

Sign-in Trouble

Hello.....I have been having trouble signing in here so I could update my blog...they wouldn't take my password.....problem was that my fingernails are so doggone long these days that I don't type so accurately.

Anyhow...things are going well these days. We never did smell the dead fish..the river rose so quickly that they were most likely washed away - hope so anyhow. The river is sure high...they tell me it gets much higher but this is dramatic enough...It is now almost up to the trail on the other side...the ducks are all up on the lower sidewalk in order to sleep. They are so cute with their heads tucked under their wings...Sunday, the 8th was the benefit dinner for Marcia's friend's family It sure was roaring success!!! Nearly 200 people turned out. Marcia did a spectacular job getting things organized.

The next day I went on the bus to the Red Wind Casino down by Olympia. Let's just say that I had a good time with the folks in spite of the fact the gambling gods were not with me that day. It was pretty ugly

Tonight there is a thanksgiving dinner downstairs....I must get to baking the brownies I promised to bring .. Also I have clothes in the dryer so I better get to gettin'....Happy Thanksgiving to you all.....

Rain, Rain Go Away!!

I take back all the complaining about the heat I did last summer!!This is ridiculous!! I always said I wouldn't melt - but now I am not so sure....Oh well....this is Seattle, after all.

The fish all all pretty much dead now...but still no smell. The river is so high that it is difficult to see them. I can't get over how ugly they get before they die... The river has been known to flood up over the walkway in the park.....of course this has all the old ladies fussing. I figure if it doesn't get up to my third floor apartment, I am okay.

I finally got a parking spot. It is nearly two blocks away - but it is MINE...

Those of you who do not live in this area may not have heard about the policeman's murder on Halloween night. Someone drove up to a parked police car and opened fire...injuring a police trainee and killing the trainer. He was a young man who had a family - wife and two kids - very sad. The Seattle police dept held his memorial yesterday and, of course, it was on TV. I was glued to the set....Police were there from as far away as San Diego and there was a huge contingent from British Columbia... The motorcade started at the UofW and wound its way down through the city to the Key Arena at Seattle Center. Took several hours for that alone.
Anyhow, no sooner was that over than there was a news alert that there had been a shooting incident in the Tukwila area and they suspected it was the person who "did the deed".....all very dramatic. This person is now in critical condition in the hospital. They are pretty sure that they have the right guy....I sure do hope so!! I must say it was quiet here in Renton without the police sirens going off all the time.....they were all in Seattle. The police turnout was quite amazing!!

I have pulled out my sewing machine and am working on Christmas gifts for my family. I Have not sewn a stitch in nearly four years - it was not easy to get back in the groove, but I think I have it down now and am putting' along quite nicely.

Tomorrow we are going to a benefit dinner for the family of Marcia's former employer who recently died from cancer. She was really nice to Marcia over the years....raising money for her when she was in the hospital, etc. Anyhow this was going to be a benefit for her medical bills, but she passed before it even got off the ground. Now it is for her family and the response has been nothing less than phenomenal. Lots of businesses have donated stuff needed to put the event on.....They are looking to having 200-300 people there. Surely do hope so. We are going to help in the kitchen and with the silent auction.

Now - in spite of the rain - MUST get to the grocery store - and the bank. (have to get cash for the Casino trip Monday..-:) )
